This is a web site about bears. The cuddly sort. The sort that stay where you put them and don’t answer back. Some bears were chosen for their good looks and prestige. Some ‘down and outs’ were found in window displays and were therefore a bit grubby, or were picked up from the bottom shelf where they had been long since forgotten. The majority, however, are ‘middle of the road’, ‘average’ or ‘normal’ sorts of bears. Whatever type you think of, though, they each have their own sort of charm… And crave lots of love.

Friends who helped with the content of our web site include the authors D. R. Summers, Jonathan D. Lindley and Ivan Jacob Kurst, often called The Part-time Poets.

Some of the photos were taken by us and some by Felicity, who also designed and made the majority of the outfits some of the bears were lucky enough to receive.

It all began many years ago in an airport just before the longest flight we’d ever taken. A fluffy hand-puppet caught our eye and he seemed the perfect companion for the new phase of our life in a new land. Gradually over the years he was joined by others and the Madonast Bear Collection was born. Poems and stories followed and, of course, lots of photos, many of which you’ll discover within these pages.
